GIS M01 — Introduction to Geographic Information Systems
Introduces basic cartographic principles including map types, scales, projections, coordinate systems, as well as an introduction to Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology and software. Provides hands-on experience through the application of GIS technology to solve spatial problems and display geographic data. Introduces the application and relevance of GIS in a diverse set of academic disciplines and professional industries such as anthropology, archeology, geology, geography, urban planning, cartography, environmental science, emergency management, education, water resources, ethnic studies, criminal justice, law enforcement, military, security, political science, sociology, infectious disease control, engineering, and marketing analytics.
