The first of a two-course seminar that provides students with opportunities to integrate knowledge and insights developed in the classroom by exploring the field experience through the group process. The practice model of engagement, assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and termination is the basis for student learning and self-evaluation. Introduces the student to “use of self” within the group context and utilizes presentations, case consultations, group process, agency resources, ethical dilemmas, and personal development to achieve professional awareness and identity. Students must receive a “B” or higher to move on to Field Seminar II. 5 cumulative GPA in all social work courses taken to date; a 2.5 overall GPA; and formal admission to the Field Experience.
