DTT 101 — Engine Systems I 3 2 4

Instruction in the course will deal with identifications of engine systems, components, and their functions. Instruction will include theory of operation of 2- and 4-stroke gas and diesel engines and an introduction to lubrication, cooling, fuel, governin g and ignition. Systems studied will include: crankshaft and valve arrangement and timing; cylinder head and valve train; pistons, rings and connecting rods. The use of necessary measuring and reconditioning tools will be taught, emphasizing safety and p roper methods of their use. The emphasis in this class will be on operation, disassembly procedures and recognition of wear and failure of parts. Rebuilding techniques will be demonstrated and discussed.
