BIOL2230 — General Microbiology
4 Credit Hour(s) This course is a general microbiology course designed to familarize students with the biology of microorganisms and the laboratory techniques necessary for identifying well-described microbes. The course includes advances in microbiology research and microbial diversity. It stresses microbial roles in biogeochemical cycling of elements in nature and the global importance of microorganisms. It deals with interactions among viruses, bacteria and macro organisms and promotes a balanced view of benefical versus harmful effects of microorganisms on environmental and human health and society. Laboratory sessions are run independently using hands-on experience and contemporary techniques in growing and observing microorganisms. Prerequisite(s): BIOL 1110 and CHEM 1110
