AET101 — Audio/Video Smart Home

This course introduces basic concepts of audio and video signals and discusses the devices and components that constitute home entertainment systems. It also discusses the current industry standards, rules, an regulations that govern home audio-video system installation and implementation. Students learn how to plan, design, install, and troubleshoot entertainment systems installed in a residential environment, based on customer requirements and other technical considerations. The installation of entertainment systems is discussed for both new and retrofit constructions. Discussions will include new techniques, applications and problem-solving ideas. Students will study and learn the fundamentals of electricity, electronics and circuit analysis. In addition, students will learn the basics of terminology, instrumentation and test equipment, tool usage, problem solving, project management, and CAD as applied to course topics. Students will also learn the basics of automated home technology, including lighting, alternative energy (green) and HVAC control.
