CJUS 2201 — Criminology & Victimology
The first part of this course will explore the origin, nature and extent of crime through an analysis of vari- ous causation theories. The various types of crimes, classifications of offenders and an overview of society’s response to criminal behavior will be discussed. The second part of this course will introduce students to the role of victimology in today’s criminal justice system. The discussion will focus on specific theories and coping strategies pertaining to domestic abuse, sexual assault, child maltreatment, elder abuse, property crime and homicide. Information regarding the victim’s rights movement, legislation and programming will be incorporated throughout the course.
