SURG 2014 — SURGICAL TECHNOLOGY I
This course is designed to introduce the student to the health care delivery system and emphasizes the role and responsibility of health care team members. Discussion will include the introduction to the profession; interpersonal relationships; professional behaviors; legal and ethical issues; death and dying; patient confidentiality; the healthcare environment; roles and duties of the surgical team; needs of the surgical patient; asepsis including preparation, sterilization, disinfection, technique, and infection control; case preparation including instrumentation and supplies; pre-operative, intraoperative, and postoperative care; diagnostic procedures and test; biomedical science; endoscopic and robotic procedures; and the principles of pharmacologic agents.
