FIRS 102A — FIRE FIGHTER 1A – STRUCTURE – 8.5 Units

Grading: Pass/No Pass Option Prerequisite: FAID 75 or FAID 132 with a grade of B or higher, or FAID 332 with a grade of P or higher Note: This course is one of a series needed to meet the minimum educational requirements for the "Alternate Delivery" of the California State Fire Marshal’s Office Fire Fighter I Certification and at the conclusion of the series, the student is eligible to attempt the summative testing needed to complete the Certification. The California State Fire Marshal’s Office requires a minimum score of 80% (a grade B or higher) to be eligible for the summative testing of Fire Fighter 1A (FF1A). Class Hours : 90 lecture/189 lab total (when offered in the distance education format, hours will total 270) This course provides the skills and knowledge needed for the entry-level firefighter to perform structural suppression activities. Key learning concepts include firefighter safety; communications; cleaning, maintaining, and utilizing equipment and tools; building construction and fire behavior; water supply; ladder operations; forcing entry into a structure; conducting search and rescue operations; attacking an interior structure fire; horizontal and vertical ventilation; property conservation; fire scene overhaul; firefighter survival; and fire suppression for structural fires, vehicles, and ground cover. The lecture portion of this course may be taught in a distance education format.
