FIRE 1410 - Fire Fighter I FIRE 1410 - Fire Fighter I 6 Credit(s) Firefighter I is an entry-level course designed to provide the foundational knowledge and hands-on skills required to operate safely and effectively as a member of a fire suppression team. Students learn firefighter safety and survival, the roles and responsibilities within basic incident organization, and the proper selection, inspection, and use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA). The course also incorporates Tennessee minimum initial firefighter training content and introduces National Incident Management System principles through NIMS IS-700 and ICS-100 coursework. Instruction includes hazardous materials awareness and operations concepts that support firefighter safety, scene recognition, initial isolation and protection actions, and defensive response within the firefighter’s scope of responsibility. Additional instruction includes ground ladders, hose handling, water supply, fire streams, fire suppression support functions, search and rescue, forcible entry, ventilation, salvage, overhaul, and live-fire competencies as applicable. The course is designed to support Tennessee Firefighter I eligibility requirements and foundational competencies aligned with current Tennessee State Fire Commission Firefighter I standards.
