EMSP2215 — Paramedic II
15 Credits This course expands upon the knowledge and skills acquired at the Advanced EMT level and develops the advanced competencies required of the paramedic. Emphasis is placed on integrating complex pathophysiology with advanced assessment, clinical reasoning, and evidence-based decision-making across a broad range of medical and trauma emergencies. Students analyze and apply advanced concepts in cardiology, electrocardiographic interpretation, and cardiovascular pharmacology while incorporating principles of respiratory, neurological, endocrine, and multisystem pathophysiology into patient management. The course includes comprehensive instruction in paramedic-level pharmacology, including indications, contraindications, therapeutic actions, dosage calculations, and administration of a wide range of medications within national and state paramedic practice guidelines. Students further develop operational leadership skills in areas such as EMS communication, incident management, safety and wellness, operational readiness, and interprofessional coordination. Through scenario-based learning, case study application, and advanced psychomotor practice, students synthesize AEMT foundations with higher-level paramedic competencies to formulate differential diagnoses, prioritize complex interventions, and manage critical patients in dynamic prehospital environments. Successful completion prepares learners for subsequent paramedic clinical rotations and field internship experiences
