Academic Division: Health Sciences Academic Discipline: Registered Nursing Assistant Dean: Leesa Cox, MBA, PTA 0 Credit(s) An introduction to fundamental nursing skills, interpersonal communication and relationships, safety in practice, ethical/legal issues of nursing practice including nursing roles and boundaries, awareness of developmental levels, medication administration guidelines/techniques/calculations, IV assessment and calculations, OR protocols and procedures pre-, intra- and post-operative care, pain assessment & management, teaching and learning, and cognitive development with a focus on critical thinking. Emphasis is placed on interviewing and physical assessment skills; safe, hygienic client care; skills performance; emotional, spiritual, and cultural concerns; infection control, surgical wound healing, medical and surgical asepsis and excretory stressors. Stress adaptation/wellness, documentation, computer research, and community nursing resources are all integral aspects of the course. Utilization of all aspects of the nursing process is emphasized in classroom, clinical and laboratory experiences.
