MUS- 5 — Music Theory II

Description: Continued study and application of techniques acquired during Music Theory I. In addition, through guided composition and analysis, Music Theory II includes: Common Practice period voice leading involving four-part chorale writing; diatonic harmony; chromatic harmony; secondary/applied chords; modulation; borrowed chords; the Neapolitan chord; augmented sixth chords; and an introduction to binary and ternary forms. Laboratory includes chromatic sight singing and ear training activities that incorporate melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic dictation. Keyboard activities require the playing of chromatic chord progressions. 54.00 hours lecture and 54.00 hours laboratory. (TBA Option) (Letter grade only)
