HMS- 64 — Introduction to Physiology and Pharmacology Related to Addiction
Description: Study of the biological impact of alcoholism and other drug dependencies, with an emphasis on the treatment and recovery processes, and the role of medical professionals as members of the recovery team. Overview of the psychological, physiological, and sociological effects of mood-altering substances and behaviors, and their implications for the addiction process are discussed. Emphasis is placed on pharmacological effects of tolerance, dependency/withdrawal, cross addiction, and drug interaction. 54.00 hours lecture. (Letter grade or Pass/No Pass option)
