MUS 166A — : Vocal Jazz Ensemble I
Students study classic and contemporary vocal jazz repertoire through vocal jazz ensemble rehearsal and performance. They present concerts and festivals on campus and throughout the community as well as concert tours. Students develop beginning vocal or instrumental skills, sight-reading skills with basic intervals and rhythms, and perform at least one solo using basic melodic shaping and jazz improvisation concepts. Students are required to attend professional jazz performances. First level of four semester enrollments. Students must audition on their voice or instrument for placement into the ensemble.
