CELDS900 — Leadership South Carolina

11.6 credits · 11.6 hours

Leadership South Carolina is the state's only statewide leadership development organization that focuses on solutions for the entire state. Designed to enlighten and develop community activists for public service, it has more than 2,000 graduates found in a wide array of businesses, professions, higher education and industries. Originally created in 1979 with the Governor and state business leaders who believed to improve the state's quality of life was through educating civic-minded individuals who would take an active part in serving on boards and commissions. The program is facilitated by six three-day conferences held across the state, a Legislative Day and a class project. Topical sessions focus on state's issues: history, economic development, workforce development, public education, social issues, healthcare, poverty, natural resources, energy, and environment. Sessions include experiential learning through modules created for us on poverty, economic development recruitment, emergency preparedness, environmental changes (climate changes), and personal development. Informational materials are presented through professionals in that field, change agents and current elected officials
