Explore three big mathematical ideas, opening the door to cultivating a growth mindset. Approach tasks and challenges with the mindset that they can be accomplished. Embrace making mistakes, develop grit and learn to persevere and work through struggles. Understand that you can work at your own unique pace. Through discussion and discourse, come to respect the many ways to solve a problem. The growth mindset will become a source of strength for you as you investigate visualization, number sense and algebra as problem solving tools. Start by visualizing the patterns and groupings of numerical representations and then use analysis to format the numbers in order to solve higher level problems. Learn to defend and explain your thinking in group work. Tie it all together at the end of each class by reflecting on the thoughts, accomplishments and new ideas you capture in your written journal.
