The center of attention for three world religions, the land of Israel has been the scene of conflict and triumph for centuries. One hundred twenty years ago, a modern Jewish state was imagined, and then planned and brought into reality in 1948. How was the state created, and how has it developed over the last 70 years? Topics will include wars, refugees and immigrants, the Palestinian people and territories, the creation of modern Hebrew culture, and future prospects. (2 sessions)
