CDIS72 — The Gospel of John

0 credits · 0 hours

The gospel of John portrays Jesus as the Divine Being (almost an alien being) who comes from above, dies willingly on the cross for humanity’s salvation, and—mission accomplished—returns triumphantly to the Father. In John’s gospel, Jesus utters no parables, performs no exorcisms, and replaces all things Jewish by enacting seven magnificent miracles. By 200 C.E. John's gospel had become “the spiritual gospel,” telling the story in symbolic ways and revealing Jesus’ obvious divinity. Unfortunately, John’s gospel is also saturated with anti-Semitism that later fuels and legitimizes attacks against Jews.
