CHEM 073 — FOOD PACKAGING MATERIALS AND
SYNTHESIS 4.00 Units (Lec 3 Hrs / Lab 4 Hrs) Transfer Credit: CSU Prerequisite: CHEM072 A student learns fundamentals of edible, bio-based. biodegrad - able, glass, metal, and paper-based food packaging materials. This course covers factors influencing polymer structures, deteriorative reactions in foods and packaging of foods such as meats, snacks, beverages, horticultural and dairy products. The laboratory pres - ents the techniques of polymer synthesis and food packaging anal - ysis, where students learn about the functions of polymers as well as their thermal stability, bursting and tensile strength.
