Introduces study of surface mining methods, operations, and procedures. Includes topics of miners' rights, work environments, ground control, health and safety standards, transportation, communication, compressed gas cylinders, explosives, mine gases and instruments, electrical hazards, accident prevention, and emergency procedures.
