Total Credits 16 Summer Semester Second Year, Fall Semester Back to TOC Professional and Technical Programs The Associate of Applied Science Respiratory Care Contact Information Christie Ward 731-424-3520 [email protected] Program and Career Description Respiratory Therapists are the health care specialists who work under the direction of a physician and assist in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients with pulmo- nary disorders. Respiratory Therapists work with people of all ages from newborns to ge- riatric patients. RTs work in hospitals, long-term care facilities, home care, and physicians' offices. The Respiratory Care program combines general education courses, respiratory care courses, and clinical experience courses. Respiratory care students will learn using the most advanced technology and hands-on patient care in one of the area healthcare facili- ties. The educational curriculum is a 5 semester on-ground program of study that prepares graduates to take the national Therapist Multiple-Choice Examination (TMC) adminis- tered by the National Board for Respiratory Care. Graduates also are eligible for state licen- sure as required by the Tennessee Board of Respiratory Care. There is great opportunity for individuals qualifed in this health care profession due to the high incidence of breathing disorders. Program Goal: "To prepare graduates with demonstrated competence in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning do
