7.0 HR. (OC) Prerequisite: EMS 232 with a C or better and department approval. This is the fourth of six courses designed to prepare the student to function as a Paramedic and provides concentrated instruction in the assessment and management of neonatal, pediatric, OB/GYN and geriatric emergencies. Diverse patient populations such as those with behavioral disorders, long-term care and the chronically ill patient will be studied and discussed. Practical laboratory sessions and selected clinical experiences provide patient contact opportunities to correlate with the course content. Current Illinois EMT licensure or National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians EMT certification is required. Six lecture and three laboratory hours per week.
