EMS231 — Paramedic II
8.0 HR. (OC) Prerequisite: EMS 230 with a grade of C or better and department approval. This course is the second of six designed to prepare the student to function as a Paramedic. This course is the second of six designed to prepare the student to function as a Paramedic. Detailed instruction in airway management, pharmacology, and medication administration will be provided. Further instruction will focus on the pathophysiology and management of trauma, to include assessment of the trauma patient, management of traumatic injuries, and current trends in trauma management. Practical laboratory sessions and selected clinical experiences provide patient contact opportunities to correlate with the course content. Current Illinois EMT licensure or National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians EMT certification is required. Seven lecture and three laboratory hours per week.
