SPE 210 — Persuasive Communication and Argumentation
Examines principles of reasoning, critical thinking, argumentation, and advocacy and their expression in a variety of media (social, political, print, web, public, visual, debate…). Students will develop an understanding of how arguments function to influence attitudes, values, and behaviors in our public culture with an emphasis on the nature of argument, proofs, evidence, constructing persuasive messages, fallacies of argument, and the use of logical reasoning.
