ENGL 253 — F Introduction to Asian American Literature 3 Units
54 hours lecture per term. This course is an introduction to literature by Asian and Pacific Islander American writers. Because literature often mirrors and informs society, the course will examine how Asian American literature can depict racial relations by examining topics, such as diaspora, systemic oppression, the model minority myth, and social justice, through contemporary and historical texts in a variety of genres. The course uses multiple contexts to consider how the literature challenges the traditional literary canon. This course satisfies the Multicultural requirement for graduation. Field trips may be required outside of regularly-scheduled class times. (Degree Credit) (CSU) (UC) AA GE, CSU GE, IGETC
