WELD 6A — Shielded Metal Arc Welding Theory and Application

This course covers the theory and application of the shielded metal arc welding process. Welding will be done in the flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead positions on mild steel. This will prepare students to take the American Welding Society (AWS) D1.1 qualification test. An introduction to the principles of shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), setup/use of SMAW equipment, and safe use of tools and equipment. Provides instruction in welding carbon steel weld joints in various positions. (A, CSU)
