DH 727 — Public Health Education Promotion
This course is designed as a survey of oral healthcare systems, public health issues, concepts, techniques, methods, policies and services related to dental public health. Exploration of the dental hygienists' role in public health promotion, preventive counseling, communication, patient management, epidemiology, services for patients with special needs, and community-based programs are included. The topics that will be covered include a review of the Dental Public Health Program Development Cycle of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of community-based programs, and future dental public health infrastructure. Service-Learning to prepare the dental hygienist for collaborative, ethical public health practice is explored. This course outlines federal, state, and local initiatives to finance health programs through the grant writing process and explores the impact of direct access provider on programs and initiatives as they relate to oral health needs.
