AFRAM 1 — Introduction to African American Studies
Introduction to African-American Studies: a critical interdisciplinary study of African American culture, history, and heritage from Pre Colonial West Africa through the 21st Century. This course will include an introduction to West African societies of the 15th and 16th centuries, prior to European Colonial Expansion; an examination of the transition into the era of African enslavement in Colonial America; an exploration of African American cultural development during the era of Reconstruction; an evaluation of African American political movements in response to social injustice and African American creative production; an analysis of the assimilation of African American culture into mainstream American culture during the 20th century; and finally, to examine and evaluate the African American community of the 21st Century.
