ENGL 110 — Argumentative Writing and Critical Thinking Through Literature
This course offers instruction in critical thinking through literary analysis. Students will develop research strategies, information literacy, and proper documentation through the study of literary works from major genres, while enhancing close reading skills and promoting an appreciation for the aesthetic qualities of literature. Special emphasis is put on the use of sound thinking in written communication of ideas based on the fundamentals of analysis and argumentation, using a variety of fiction, poetry, and drama. This is the final course in the composition and reading sequence. Each student will write a minimum of 6,000 words. Prerequisite: completion of ENGL 101 with a “C” grade or higher.
