EDUC 207 — Teacher Preparation VII Practicum
This is a course for educators who work with migrant students, multilingual learners, and/or diverse learners, and focuses on California State Standards and curriculum frameworks. The focus of the course is Teaching Performance Expectations: Engaging and Supporting All Students in Learning (TPE 1.6). Participants will develop and apply their understanding of theories examined and best practices to provide a supportive learning environment for students' first and/or second language acquisition by using research-based instructional approaches, including focused English Language Development (ELD), Specialized Designed Academic Instruction in English (SDAIE), scaffolding across content areas and structured English immersion. The course emphasizes connecting student learning in subject matter to real-life contexts and promoting active learning experiences to engage student interest. This will include understanding and using the knowledge and life experiences a student brings to the classroom, as well as their cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds, to engage them in learning.
