ECE 140 — Teaching Young Children with Special Needs
This course introduces the variations in development of children with special needs from birth through eight years old and the resulting impact on families. It includes the historical, social, and legal contexts relating to children with special needs. Students will learn about the processes of identification and referral, curriculum and intervention strategies, and facilitating partnership with the families of special needs children. Students will learn how to use observation and assessment to meet the individualized needs of children in inclusive and natural environments. Students will gain a better understanding of role of the teacher as a professional working with families.
