This course is a broad survey of American Indian history from antiquity to the present. It focuses on the long presence indigenous peoples in the present-day continental United States, Alaska, and Hawaii within a hemispheric and global history of indigenous peoples. The course examines interactions between American Indians and European colonies as well as modern cultural and tribal issues. The course's approach integrates American Indian knowledge and perspectives into larger narratives of American history. Fulfills the ECC/IAI General Education/Social Sciences requirement.
