HIS 140 — History of Asia: Ancient to 1500 (3) (3,0)

This course presents an introductory survey of the historical development of various Asian civilizations from ancient times to the end of the classical period in 1500, including China, Japan, and Korea. Students will also study Taiwan, Vietnam, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, the Philippines, and other Pacific Islands. Study will begin with the ancient origins of these cultures, and conclude with their classical periods from 500 BC-1500. This approach will give students a foundation to build an understanding of Asian geography, history, politics, religion and culture. Students will compose historical arguments making use of a variety of secondary and primary sources. (1.1 ) Fulfills the ECC/IAI General Education/Social Sciences requirement.
