This course surveys the history of photography from its invention in the early 19th century to the present day, examining its technological, artistic, and social developments. Students will explore photography's role as a documentary tool, an art form, and a medium of cultural expression. Emphasis is placed on key photographers, movements, and innovations, as well as the relationship between photography and broader historical, political, and cultural contexts. The course integrates visual analysis and historical research to build a comprehensive understanding of photography's place in art history.
