ENGL 245 — Asian Pacific American Literature

Units: 3 Lecture Hours: 54 Lab Hours: 0 Outside Hours: 108 Grading Method: Letter Credit Status: Credit, degree applicable Conditions of Enrollment: None This course provides a cross-cultural comparative study of the literary fiction and non-fiction works of Asian American authors. Students in the course have the opportunity to examine how literature reflects the experiences of Asian Americans, including issues of assimilation, racial and social justice, and its effects on literary style. Through discussion and analysis of the course texts, the course examines the history, culture, customs, and traditions of at least four of the following Asian American communities: Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Filipino, Vietnamese, Indian, Native Hawaiian, and other southeast Asian and Pacific Island nations. Some theory, such as critical race theory, postcolonial, Marxist, among others.
