WGS 103 — Women, their Bodies and Health

This course will examine contemporary women's health issues and body image concerns. General topics will include lifespan changes, mental health, eating disorders, prevention of abuse and self-harm, social roles, relationships, birth control and pregnancy. Health education, health services and healthcare delivery systems will be addressed. Current research on cardiovascular disease, cancer and other chronic conditions will be discussed as they pertain to women's issues. Students will learn the social determinants of health and health inequities and contemporary issues relating to LGBTQ+ rights, racism, ageism, gender stereotypes and gender roles, politics, and the role of women in the family, workforce, community, and society. This course is not open to students currently enrolled in or who have completed HED 103 or WS 103.
