BTEC 2200 — | IMMUNOLOGY
This course provides students with a foundation in basic human immunology with emphasis on the use of immunology in research. Surveys of innate and acquired immunity, humoral and cell mediated immunity, gene expression associated with immunity and protein synthesis and structure. In addition, topics concerning specific immune disorders are covered. Laboratory topics emphasize the isolation of proteins, including precipitation techniques, chromatography, gel electrophoresis, dialysis, and immune techniques including western blotting and enzyme-linked immunosorbant assays; concentration calculations, making dilutions, solution make-up, good record keeping and laboratory safety are also emphasized.
